Driver Profile July 09 - Jo Osborne

jocef2
Jo Osborne Is a 23 year old Financial Administrator from Auckland with a passion for Drifting and the proud owner of a rather staunch Cefiro!

Hi Jo, when did you first get involved in Drifting?
I’ve been a spectator since it began in NZ (2003), and a lot of my friends have been a part of it over the years, but I finally decided to get into it myself after falling in love with Dave Matehaere’s Cefiro at Driftopia in June last year.

What did you like the most about Drifting?
Being in control of a car that seems so out of control and fast. It’s the most interesting type of motorsport to me!

Have you participated in any Drift events?
I’ve done a few Driftopia events in the North Island, Pukekohe, Meremere and am heading down to Taupo this month as well.jocefiroside

Tell us about your Cefiro MISS D1?
It’s a modest start, but getting there. 1989 A31 Cefiro, manual RB20turbo, the engine is pretty standard as they make ok power as is and the less you mess with it, the less there is to go wrong. The suspension and lots of other things have been upgraded to change the set up for drifting and improve reliability & power.

What plans are in store for MISS D1?
In the foreseeable future, a roll cage, harnesses and a bigger turbo and hopefully no big accidents on the track! After that is anyone’s guess.

Your comments on the Kiwi Drift scene?
I haven’t seen the scenes in other countries to compare, but I would like to see it continue to grow and get up to the standards of Japan and the States. It’s a pretty small pond here but I like how NZ always does things differently.

Do you have any favourite Kiwi Drifters?
Jase Sellers - he's done so well lately, excelling in rain.  Kylee Cooper - doing it for the girls and running events and Will Cook - keeping it real for Toyotas since ages ago.

Any advice for Kiwi woman wanting to give Drifting a go?
I won’t lie - it’s hard and can be scary, but you can’t be scared to push your limits and don’t give up - if you need help ask and ask and ask again until you find those valuable people who believe in you.  (I’d like to give a thank you to some of those people, my dad, Chuckie, Paulie, Slim, Dion, Keg, Frank Allen Tyres and to my best girls).

Name three things you couldn't live without?
My Chihuahua Luca, chocolate, and my handbag (that way I get my cell phone, visa and makeup!)

Your idol and why?
I don’t think I’ve been around long enough to have an idol yet, I look up to all of my true friends who surprise me every day with their strength and loyalty.

 Quote to live by?
“We’ll see”

What was your first car?
An ’83 KP60 Starlet that I put a 5k in, I loved that thing!

Thanks Jo everyone at Wheels and Heels wishes you the best of luck with your Drifting prospects!
